10 Items I Will NEVER Spend Money On As A Frugal Person
10 common yet wildly unnecessary purchases to avoid
#1: Name Brand Pharmaceuticals
According to the FDA, generic prescription drugs cost an average of 80–85% less than the name brand. And while buying generic in the case of some consumer goods means sacrificing on quality, the same premise doesn’t apply to pharmaceuticals. This is because the FDA requires that generic drugs meet the same quality and efficacy standards as the name brand. As a result, these generics are made to copy the brand name with the exact dosage, intended use, side effects, and strength. So when buying the generic drug, the quality is guaranteed — just at a much lower price.
#2: Multivitamins
According to Scientific American, there is no evidence that taking a daily multivitamin prevents or slows the progression of chronic diseases. Yet supplement usage has reached an all-time high in recent years. In fact, a 2019 AOA poll found that 86% of Americans take dietary supplements while only a quarter of those taking supplements actually have a confirmed nutritional deficiency. Further, most physicians agree that vitamins are unnecessary for the majority of consumers. So unless your doctor explicitly recommends taking them, save your money.
