7 Things I’ll Always Pay More For
#5, a Good Pair of Jeans
As much as I love to save a buck, I’ve learned over the years that it doesn’t always pay to pick the cheapest option on day 1.
Don’t get me wrong. Most of the time, penny-pinching is still the way to go.
But for these 7 items, I’ve found much more long-term value in paying a bit more upfront in exchange for longer wear, better health, and fewer maintenance costs down the road.
#1. The Pricier Health Insurance
Up until about a year ago, I would’ve disputed this one. The ability to grow your money tax free in an HSA seemed like a retirement planning loophole so good it should be illegal. And at the time, I wasn’t getting much value out of the basic coverage that I was already paying quite a bit for — even with it being through my employer. Most of my office visits still cost several hundred dollars, and I found getting preventative care difficult to justify at times for that reason.
But when I moved companies last summer, two things happened. First, I was able to get on a much better plan at a shockingly reasonable price. And with my husband about to be on the policy with me, I decided to upgrade a level for some added security.
