9 Things To Do Before Buying A Home

The closer my partner and I get to tying the knot, the more I get asked, “Well, when are you two buying a home?” Usually, but depending on who’s asking me that question, I spare them my unfiltered rant on why I’m far from enamored with the idea of home ownership at this particular point in my life.

A few days ago, when a coworker of mine asked me this question again, I told her politely that my partner and I weren’t in much of a hurry right now nor would we be ready to buy if our minds changed overnight anyway. But she then followed up with “Then what would make you ready, in your sense of the word, to buy a home?” And that’s when I got to thinking.

So I did a bit more research into the home buying process, called a few friends who’d been through it recently, and even connected with a former colleague turned realtor in order to arrive at an acceptable answer. And here’s what I found. Here are the 9 steps that I’m taking — and would recommend that every prospective buyer take — well in advance of looking at their first property.
