I Furnished My Home with Less Than $10k
Here’s exactly how I did it.
Step 1: Bargain with the previous owners.
Fortunately for my husband and I, the previous owners preferred not to move with much of their furniture when it came time to close on and move into our home. And since my better half and I had little more than two beds and a coffee table between us, we saw an opportunity. We were able to secure a couch, TV stand, and most of our appliances for just pennies on the dollar — stretching our limited budget way further than we ever would’ve imagined.
While this first step appeared out of luck for us, it’s possible to recreate with a twist. The next time your neighbors move, it might be worth asking to peruse the piles of stuff they’ll inevitably be parting with on the way to their next place. And if you’re in the process of buying a home, my advice would be to ask the seller or sellers if they’d be willing to accept offers on the furniture or appliances as well. The worst they can tell you is “No.”
Step 2: Pick out your dream furniture, then reverse image search it.
With what remained in my budget, I still needed to put together most of the house. To do that, I started by finding my favorite pieces from across the web and pairing those that would complement the existing pieces best. While making those matches…
