I’ve often been told that the first year of marriage is the hardest.
While my husband and I haven’t hit our one-year anniversary just yet, that hasn't been the case for us.
Instead, it’s been a breeze. And I owe that in no small part to the seven habits that keep our goals aligned and our finances in order.
So here they are, the 7 financial habits that turned a good relationship into a great marriage.
#1. Regular Check-Ins
Since my husband’s self-employed and the demands of his career necessitate me taking when it comes to our personal finances, we carve out half an hour each week to discuss changes to the business, how we’re tracking towards the monthly budget and any potential purchases that we’d like to make.
The benefits of meeting weekly are twofold. First, it cements the habit of communicating anything and everything about our finances so that there are no surprises, which in turn builds trust. Second, such consistency keeps us working towards the same set of goals week in and week out.
