To My Mother-in-Law, Thank You
for giving me a second shot at life.
When my husband and I met, I regarded his mother with suspicion.
Their relationship confused me. I vacillated between feeling like the other woman and desperately seeking her approval. And deep down, I assumed she’d find a way to hurt me just like my mom did.
But from the beginning, she let me in. She loved me as her own.
Now almost 4 years later, I doubt she realizes the impact she’s had on my life. So, to my mother-in-law, this one’s for you.
Thank You for Being the Mom I Deserved
You’ve been my greatest cheerleader, confidant, and role model. You challenge me to do my best, to chase after what I want, and you mercilessly call me out when I sell myself short. Your unconditional love gives me the confidence I need to do just about anything.
I didn’t have that kind of support growing up, and I came to believe I’d never find it let alone be deserving of it. And I certainly didn’t understand the power of having someone in your corner no matter what. It’s life-changing, so thank you.
